It took quite some time, but here it comes:
My WIESN post. If you're on facebook, you know some of the pictures and stories, but as usual, here is the time to post the more "private" stuff.....
This year I've finally moved my lazy ass and organized myself a trip to the legendary Oktoberfest. I had wanted to go there for quite a few years, but in the end, going to a place like this is only fun when you can celebrate it with the right people around you --- and with me being myself, with the friends I have, this has always been kind of a problem.
Most of them don't like crowds, don't like alcohol, don't like loud music or they don't have the money to go on a trip, so for a few years, I just couldn't go there or I would have been completely on my own.
This year, however, everything seemed to be perfect. I had four different friends offering room to me in Munich, and a friend of mine who lives in Hamburg also wanted to go there, so in the end, we decided to stay at our friend's place who lived directly at the Theresienwiese, so we were about 100m away from all the fun. When you stood on her balcony, you could hear the people scream from the rollercoaster. AMAZING!!!
I arrived in Munich on a wednesday night around half past nine. My place to spend the night was right at the central station, but when I arrived there, I had to travel a bit further by metro.
My friends had decided to meet a few stations further away for a drink, so me and my luggage travelled there and had a last beer with the other guys. Then we went home and I slept amazingly well, although I am usually not that comfortable with foreign beds.
Thursday morning, my host had to leave for her 2-days business trip. So we had the flat to ourselves for the day and the next. The weather was sunny and warm, so we decided to explore Munich by foot and just started to walk. We strolled along the inner city and entered a few stores.
I was amazed by all the beautiful dirndl dresses, the most fascinating of them being this one. I hope it made an english lady very happy. (Ohhh, I'm so mean! But actually, the english tourists were really annoying, so I don't mind.)
The next photo is kind of special to me. Not only because it shows me in my super sweet dress, but actually this is the last picture that shows a healthy Nori. Here we are at Viktualienmarkt. While we took photos, a creepy fat old man tried to hit on me, so actually it was quite hard to take the photo. Afterwards, we would buy a few strawberries and a few plums. I ate a few strawberries and a few moments later my stomach felt a little strange. As my stomach tends to be a nervous little bitch, especially when I'm travelling, I thought it would be ok soon, but the pain got worse.
I had to sit down for a while and then I felt better. So we proceeded on our trip, but only 10 minutes later I had to sit down again. This time we rested for a longer time, and I started to feel really good again. So we started on our way home.
The walk was long. Really long. I got so horribly sick I can only remember fragments of the walk. When we were at Karlstor it was so bad that I didn't know what was up and down anymore, everything in my head was just spinning. With a lot of breaks we made it to our flat and I sat down in a chair and felt miserable.
My friend left and did some shopping. Fresh veggies and fruit for herself and our host, and pretzels, cookies and tea for me. I can't tell you how grateful I was.
Just a few hours later we had a date for wiesn, so I did my best to prepare my body so that I could go. I ate loads of pretzels, I drank herb tea, and I just lay down. I really got a lot better, and as the wiesn was close anyway, I decided I would take the risk and set out.
Dolled up (I'm so happy I could do all that stuff while being seated) indeed, I entered the grounds of eternal fun. I was still weak on my legs, and all the amazing candy that looked so great in the shops made me feel like throwing up when I only looked at it. My friends decided to ride a chairoplane, and OH, did this look fun!!! But I, who loves chairoplanes so much, could not ride with them. I just couldn't. DAMN!!!
Afterwards, we went to Paulaner beer garden. The girls offered me to share a Mass, for I could possibly not drink one on my own. But I wanted my own glass. What if this was not just bad strawberries, but a kind of virus? I didn't want to get the others sick.
So I ordered my first Mass. I had actually planned to just take little sips, for beer tends to upset my stomach and I didn't want more of that. So, why the hell did I order a Mass then, you might ask. I did it because at Oktoberfest, if you order something different from beer, you won't get it for ages. They are very quick with the beer, but not with the other stuff.
Now....I had my beer, and I took a sip. What can I tell you? It tasted good. And my belly felt better. I would have never thought that, but the beer took my pain away. The more beer I had, the more my condition improved. I don't mean that it was the alcohol, I actually mean that it was the very mild chilled liquid that seemed to have an effect.
Now I was ready for some fun!!! Showing off my fruits :D
We laughed a lot that evening and had some really great conversations. We met a local couple with whom we had a lot of fun and made lots of funny pictures.
Hehe......live like a saint, act like a bitch..... (I guess life would be more fun if I did it the other way round....)
I was very happy that evening. I had not imagined Wiesn to be this much fun to me, but the atmosphere was great that night.
A good start into the week.
The next day, when I woke up, my first thougth was "oh fuck this". My belly felt horrible. I sat down in front of the tv and waited for it to get better, and I got to a conclusion. Experience told me that my stomach was messed up for the next days and I could not do anything about it. So I decided that I would just repeat my treatment from the day before, eating pretzels, and enjoying the nights at Oktoberfest anyway.
Turned out to be a good decision, and it got me through the week.
Around noon I felt better, so we did another walk in the great weather. We walked in a circle around the Oktoberfest area and watched how people got there, how they rested there, how they returned from there and so on. It was great fun!
I had made a loose date with my former co-worker (the one who didn't attend the wedding because of health reasons). I wanted to meet with him in the tent of Hofbräuhaus around five. However, when I called to make sure it was ok, there was no fucking connection.
I KNOW that Oktoberfest hosts CROWDS of people, and they all use their cell phones, but honestly: If the organization committee even prints huge posters that say "don't worry, we've got extra capacities so this year the connections will not break down", I fucking expect this to work!!!
I was all disappointed now. At that time, I didn't know where exactly the guys had gone, so without cell phone, it would be impossible to find them. However, I soon found out that text messages still worked, so I made my way to meet the guys.
Naturally, the tents were all closed, so I could not get in. I decided to just stand there and wait and see how things were going. The waitresses would occasionally let small groups of people enter, though it was maybe 5 people out of 100 at a time. Like some others, I would raise one finger when they came near, to imply that I was alone and didn't need much space. However, that didn't prove to be a success.
The securities kept telling people that no one would be left in anymore here where we stood, but they should try the side entrances, there people would still be let in. Yeeeaaah, fuck you fucking fuckers! I thought. What a lie! They were just trying to get people to go from one entrance to the other, eventually giving up. NOT WITH ME FRIEND BLADDER!!!!
I remained where I was, and after about 30 minutes, they started to prepare for something ---- and I soon realized what that something was. They would remove all the borders for a short period of time.
First come - first serve!!
And here I was, front row and completely sober.
There was no way I could lose this.
As soon as they opened, I pushed my way in. In no time I had entered the tent, and after a few minutes of intense text messages, I was finally reunited with my very dear friend and ex-co-worker, and we even wore partner look.
Happiness!!!
As the guys had been there for a few hours I had to catch up with them beer-wise, and I did my best. However, when I ordered my second beer and it was brought, I paid for it, and then danced the remaining minute of the song they were playing, and then my beer was gone. Some fucked up bastard had stolen my FULL mass!!!
I hope that bastard got himself an intoxication and chlamydia. Deserved both.
Anyway, as I was determined to have NOTHING ruin my mood, and as I had come with a certain budget that was to be spent, I just ordered myself a new beer and took better care of it.
Unfortunately, my co-workers friend lost his cell phone that evening, and the guys searched for it, so the super happy party mood was downed a little, but as it could not be changed anyway, I drank and danced and sang even harder. I had a truly amazing night.
The next day was field trip day. I caught up with the girls and we went to Tegernsee and spent some hours there, sitting in the sun, bathing our feet in the water. Ohhh, I was so angry that I hadn't brought my bikini. I had packed it in my luggage, but what use was my bikini in a flat in munich now?
Stupid me!!!
Nevertheless it was fun. I could walk longer distances now, though my stomach kept hurting. I didn't mind very much though, as long as I saw an improvement to the day before.
In the evening I went to the Wiesn again. I met again with the couple I had met on my first day in the beer garden, and we had some more great fun.
However, this time, they introduced me to a great bottled beer that was....well.....a bottled beer. I didn't like it. It was not at all like the Wiesn beer I had grown to like so much. It was just as unpleasant as a bottled beer in Berlin, and it was just as bad for my stomach.
It took me hours to finish it. Brrrrrrrrrrrrr...........
However, the evening was still nice.
On sunday, another highlight of my trip came. My visit at Penny's.
Penny is a friend of mine who studied Japanese with me. I love her so much, but some time ago, she moved to Munich with her husband and daughter, so we couldn't meet anymore.
Now I was finally able to visit her, and of course, I brought a present for her daughter. I really hope she liked the cute book with princess stories. Well, she certainly liked the chocolate of her kinder surprise egg..... Her mouth liked it, her nose liked it, her cheeks liked it, and her fingers liked it.
I can tell you, she's an adorable girl. So sweet, but full of wit and wicked ideas. Stubborn and fun, lovely and mean, all in one. I just love kids with a character.
Penny and I chatted for hours. For the evening I had a loose date for a few drinks at a bar with some friends, and I was so happy to hear that Penny would come over later, when her husband returned from work.
However, my drink dates cancelled and I was already fearing an evening all alone in the dark, but fortunately Penny came nevertheless and we walked around and drank and had fun. I was so sad to leave her and go back to Berlin.
I hope that next time I visit, I'll be able to meet her husband as well.
On my way back home I visited the surfers at the ice river. There's a spot at this little river where there's a wave, so surfers started to surf that one wave. Looks fun, but you have to be quite skilled as a surfer to do it, so a beginner would be totally lost.
The next day was monday. My stomach was not exactly fine, but in control, so I decided I would spend the day on my own and relive my first day in Munich. Now that I was not in pain anymore, I wanted to see all the beautiful spots of the city once more, and I wanted to see as much of the English Garden as possible. So I set out early and walked and walked and walked.
I got myself a bubble tea, I took some photos, I bought new dresses, I camwhored.
It was brilliant, just brilliant. And I must admit that after several days of three women in a one-room apartment, I was happy to just walk quietly.
Well.....quietly?
Honestly, Munich's old men have some guts. I can hardly count how often some old creep tried to hit on me. I was disgusted. I know I am a conservative girl when it comes to stuff like that, but I can't help it. I was disgusted.
I spent all the day in the sun, walking and eventually sitting down on a very pretty lawn in the English Garden.
Yeah.
If any of you guys needs to know where exactly the old nudist overweight gays of munich have their meetup place, I hereby happily announce that I was lucky enough to find it.
Anyway, as I had sat down there I decided I would stay anyway and use my GAIJIN SMASH. (Foreigner, doesn't know any better, so must not be disturbed in her queer ways or we will all regret it.)
In the evening I met once again with my ex-co-worker at a really cool bar near the university, where all the cool kids hang out.
It was so cool that at 10:45 they started to close all the outer areas, so that people who would come by on their way from Wiesn (which closed at 11) would not storm into that bar in crowds. Yeah, Munich.
When I left on the next day I was sad. Really, really sad.
Not only was it a beautiful place to stay, but I had reconnected with so many people who were dear to me, and who I will not see for a very long time now.
So my trip home was like a bittersweet symphony.
The super annoying mother with her 4 (gazillions of???) kids that "entertained" the entire wagon with either her screaming or the kids running around the whole wagon, yelling, climbing the seats, knocking over other people's luggage.....
Horrible people, really. On their way home from holidays. Where were they headed? Berlin, of course.
Berlin, here I came again.
